PATCH: DARKNET OPERATIONS REBALANCE
Thanks @WzerW
Every defensive upgrade now does something at every level, a landed DDoS actually stops the target mining, and Redundancy became the skill that decides whether you stay online. If you have spent skill points or Shards on defence, read this one.

Every defensive upgrade now does something at every level, a landed DDoS actually stops the target mining, and Redundancy became the skill that decides whether you stay online. If you have spent skill points or Shards on defence, read this one.
UPGRADES THAT DID NOTHING
- Defence used to subtract flat percentages and then hit a floor. Corporate Firewall took 5% off per level against a 50% base, so by level 8 you were already at the minimum. Levels 9 and 10 changed nothing at all.
- Reinforced Firewall was worse. If your hardware was maxed, the skill was doing literally nothing. Three skill points for zero effect.
- Now every level multiplies instead of subtracting. Each level cuts a share of whatever risk is left, so it never runs out of room and it never stops mattering.
THE NEW NUMBERS
- Corporate Firewall and DDoS Mitigation Layer: 9% off your remaining risk per level. At level 10 that is 62% less risk overall.
- Reinforced Firewall: 12% per level, applied on top of your hardware. It now works just as well on a maxed setup as on an empty one.
- Hack and DDoS Boosters: 9% per level, applied the same way, so they stay useful against heavily defended targets.
- Undefended target: hack 50%, DDoS 60%. Fully defended: hack 13%, DDoS 16%. Fully defended against a fully boosted attacker: hack 20%, DDoS 24%.
A LANDED DDOS NOW STOPS THE MINING
- Before, Redundancy kept your session alive no matter what. As long as one rig survived you carried on mining, so an attacker could pay, land the hit, and you would not even notice.
- Now a successful DDoS ends the mining session. That is the whole point of the attack, and it is what the confirmation screen has always promised.
- Redundancy is what decides whether it lands. Every level gives a 10% chance that your session survives the attack anyway, up to 30%.
- It still keeps your rigs armed. One extra rig stays online per level, so restarting is one click instead of switching everything back on by hand.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
- If you maxed your hardware, your numbers shift slightly. Hack risk goes from 10% to 13%, DDoS risk from 20% to 16%. The trade is that the last three levels you bought are no longer dead weight.
- If you put points into Reinforced Firewall, you just got what you paid for. It was doing nothing for maxed setups and now it cuts 12% per level regardless.
- If you relied on Redundancy for uninterrupted uptime, that is gone. It now buys you a real chance to shrug an attack off instead of a guarantee, and long mining streaks are something you have to defend rather than something you own.
- If you attack, defended targets are no longer pointless. Boosters scale properly now, and a fully defended target sits at 20-24% instead of the old hard floor.
ALSO
- The Black Market shows your real protection. The old card claimed a flat figure that stopped being true above level 8. It now reads your actual risk reduction.
- Every skill description was checked against the code. A few were describing behaviour that had drifted, including the DDoS Mitigation Layer being called an antivirus in places it never was one.
FEEDBACK
- These numbers are a starting point. Nothing here is locked in, and it is easier to move a percentage than to argue about it, so if defence feels too weak or attacking feels hopeless, post in this thread with what you are running and what you are seeing.
