I’m fairly new to understanding online security, including server hosting. My dad does cybersecurity, and explains that hosting a server at home isn’t exactly safe since we use the service providers router and not our own, meaning we can’t put a vpn on it. I heard there are ways like using online vpn service providers that redirects my servers IP to theirs instead, but I’m not exactly sure how it works nor do I feel like it’d be appropriate to ask/inform my dad without the right proper information from people who have actually tried this, not just ai.
For more context, I’m trying to host a Minecraft server (for my small group of like 4 friends) on a Chromebook I have (4GB ram, which I know is not “GREAT” but I just need it to run SAFELY). And yes I’ve used Aternos but it’s only temporary till everyone leaves, so once again, I’m looking for any possible means of something more permanent in terms of security, and not too much on hardware
