Are pottery sherds are the perfect server currency?

I've seen the conversation about what the best currency is a hundred times and it always loops back to something with too many flaws. Ores and farmable resources are far too inflated and echo shards and nether stars are too rare or hard to obtain so new players joining will have a hard time getting into the economy. You could always forgo a set currency and rely on bartering but that makes it very hard to trade if one person has a shop and isn't online.

I recently posted this as a comment to a random thread but I felt it needed to be made its own. I've never seen anyone else talk about sherds as a currency but from what i can tell they mostly avoid all the prior mentioned problems.

○ New players can quickly enter the economy

○ Not farmable

○ Rare enough to avoid inflation but common enough to make small purchases

○ Strongly encourages exploration and more dynamic gameplay than AFKing or mining

The only part I'm not entirely sure about is the value of each type of sherd as they have different rarities and are relative to what structures they are obtained from. I very recently implemented it into my server and used a 1-2-3 value system (1 - trial chambers) (2 - desert and ocean structures) (3 - trail ruins). We run a texture pack that changes the colors of the sherds so it’s easy to identify their values. If anyone could give me feedback on this idea and specifically on the value system it would be appreciated.
