I wondered why an old world I imported to my server would go from 20 TPS DOWN TO 6 around spawn, so I did a ton of diagnosing with Spark and a mod on singleplayer, and I found out the cause of that drop was...
...6 levitating villagers.
I carefully had to kill them all, except for Mr. Villager Man, who still lives.
(he's escaped numerous deaths for 5 years now)
If your server is mysteriously lagging, PLEASE make sure you check for infinitely levitating villagers...
