I’m currently running a Minecraft Folia server on a Ryzen 97950X, and while performance is great, the cost is overkill for what I actually need.
I want to reduce hosting costs while still being able to run:
- ~200 concurrent players
- Vanilla-style gameplay
- A few basic plugins
- Anti-xray + anticheat
- No world pre-generation
- Running on Folia, not Paper
What I’m trying to figure out:
- CPU requirements for Folia at ~200 players
- How much single-core performance really matters vs total cores
- Whether high clocks still beat extra cores in real Folia workloads
- Dedicated server vs VPS
- Is a dedicated CPU still strongly recommended for Folia?
- Has anyone successfully run ~200 players on:
- VPS with shared vCPU
- VPS with dedicated CPU
- What CPU do you recommend?
