ELI5: self-hosted servers breaking with the 26.30 Update

I’m newly back to the game and have almost no experience hosting servers. My brother runs ours. When the 26.30 update was forced on my Switch 2, I was no longer able to access our server. I have a rudimentary understanding that the number of updates means some of the server functionality got busted and we just have to wait for a patch. The server updates nightly but still no access. I want to be able to more intelligent Google status and such so I can know when to expect things to be fixed or if there is anything I can/need to do. Any light you can shed is helpful. Thanks!
