I host a minecraft server with some mild QOT mods, and terralith+tectonic+clifftree (and the obvious performance mods, pregenerated with chunky too). Usually around 5 players, but i could see hosting for around 10 players.
Ive been hosting it on my old laptop with intel i7 8000-something and i was playing a newer laptop with an Intel i7 10850h and 16 GB. The previous laptop worked fine, with some lag when flying with elytras. Both had gpus but thats irrelevant.
I just bought a new pc, 5070 Ti, 9800x3D and 32 GB DDR5. This is obviously going to be what i am playing on, with shaders and stuff, but the question is should i host the server on my I7 10850h laptop, or should i host it on the pc i am playing on. If 1% lows are slightly lower thats fine.
I struggled to find good resources, except for planet minecraft posts from 2012 that were insane, or google gemini in search which said that hosting on anf playing on the same will be fine, as the pc is decked out enough. Will use the laptops sometimes as i cant be bothered having my stationary on 24/7.
TLDR: Hosting and playing on 9800x3D, or hosting on i7 10850h.
