How do I stop our Minecraft server from dying?

I'm aware that it has been asked here before but my situation is a bit different. In my Minecraft server a bunch of new people joined. That caused instability and a war has broken out (Mainly Me and 3 others against the server admin, but that's not important). That caused a guy to get banned and 3 houses to be blown up, burnt down, and I feel like nobody is motivated to play anymore. What could I do to prevent that (And help whit rebuilding)?
