Laggy server after increasing chunk view distance (turned it back to 10 and its still laggy)

So I've had an allthemons server up for about 2 and half weeks. I recently tried turning the view distance up from 10 to 20 in the server config file, and since then its been laggy even after turning back to 10. I'm sure the fix is something probably I should know already but I can't find anything online and I'm not too sure about claude or any of the other bots advice cause I've had issues with them before. (idk if it's relevant but it's running on ubuntu in a docker) any help would be appreciated!
