Hi yall, thinking about switching from Realms to a proper home server for the next time I get back into Minecraft (i've been a bit bummed out about my realm dying off this week ._. ) and while I'll do my due diligence with YouTube tutorials to teach myself how to host one, I wanted to throw some miscellaneous questions I have out there!
1) Will the Inventory, XP, Achievements, Pet-ownership, etc. of myself and other players from my Realm transfer over to my hypothetical home server?
2) How much RAM would I need to reliably host a server on a day-to-day basis before experience noticeable slowdown on my computer? My desktop and laptop both have 16gb of RAM each. (i want to upgrade my PC soon, but that's its own issue lmao)
3) How much of a security risk is hosting a server? I've read a few posts that say that hosting a home server can ***POTENTIALLY*** put your network(and thus some personal info) at risk, and I just wanted to know how true that is.
Realms only cost like under $10 USD for me, but I'm a kinda broke college student, and 10 dollars is 10 dollars, and I'd like to be able to take breaks and come back to the game without being forced to worry about managing a subscription. Also I'd like to potentially get involved in mods and plugins for a multiplayer server, which Realms don't allow.
