Not sure if anyone has ran into this problem but I opened up a small server to host and grow a community on- we had a good, solid community at first but overtime (after moderators excercise a punishment to a player for breaking rules) we would have a decent sized ‘leave wave’ where ppl would stop playing and leave the discord.
All situations were results of the moderation team banning/temp-banning players for bullying, hacking, etc. - and even though we’re trying our best- every decision we make seems to be punished for just upholding our rules, and afterwards seemingly made out to be ‘evil’ and ‘biased’.
Though we’ve listened to the community and are actively making changes to how we do things/being more transparent- it still feels quite defeating in the meantime and has caused a lot of demotivation in our mod team. (especially since we all take our small amounts of spare time to run this thing for free)
My question is- how do you balance this moderation v.s. community type relationship? Do you make a giant rule book for every possible situation? What does moderation look like on your server? Any tips on moderation and how to handle situations like these?
