Testing complete. Explanation time.
Hiyas everyone. It was a long time coming, but I finally decided to stop being a lazy piece of shit and actually update the rules for real.
About half a year ago, I posted a pinned thread asking for feedback on proposed new rules. Overall, it was well received, but it became clear over the interceding period of time since then that the rules were way too verbose. Add in that there was no good solution to prominently display 7ish rules that each had anywhere from 1 to 15 sub rules, and it was clear we couldn't use them as is.
So in a fit of frustration from the extra work our unupdated rules were causing the team, I cranked out the first version, then started off the Staff team's internal review period yesterday. Everyone had at least a small hand in the current state of the new rules, especially u/TheVibeCurator, who did a bunch of the tedious busywork on the removal messages.
Anyway, this is what we came up with. It attempts to target the most common issues we have with post quality, like insufficient diagnostic information or low quality software submissions, while also explicitly eliminating several avenues for abusive use of the community, like revenue generation, market research, host advertisements, etc.
We'd love to hear what you all think. Keep in mind that we're at the limit of rules we are allowed to have (the max is 15), so if anyone thinks we need more rules, we'll be trying to work them into existing rules if possible.
