SUGGESTION — Prefix & Category System for Oxide / Carbon Rust Plugins
Quality of Life | Resource Section | March 2026

Many users download Rust plugins but later realize they are not compatible with their server framework. This wastes time and causes unnecessary confusion — especially for newer server owners who do not yet know the difference between Oxide and Carbon.

It would be very helpful if the resource section had separate prefixes or categories to solve this immediately.

Proposed Prefixes

Simple prefix tags added to resource thread titles — similar to how [GUIDE], [TOOL] and [LEAK] already work on this forum:

PrefixMeaning
[Oxide]Works only with Oxide / uMod framework
[Carbon]Works only with Carbon framework
[Universal]Works with both Oxide and Carbon

Or Separate Categories

Alternatively — split the Rust Plugins section into dedicated subcategories:

  • Rust Plugins (Oxide / uMod)
  • Rust Plugins (Carbon)
  • Rust Plugins (Universal)

Both approaches would work. Prefixes are the simpler solution and easier to implement. Separate categories would be cleaner long-term as the resource section continues to grow.

Why This Matters

Right now a server owner running Carbon has to:

  1. Open a resource thread
  2. Download the plugin
  3. Upload it to the server
  4. Reload it and get an error
  5. Realize it is Oxide-only
  6. Go back and repeat

With a simple prefix this becomes a one-second visual check before downloading anything.

Current situationWith prefix system
No way to filter by framework✔ Instant visual identification
Must open every thread to check✔ Filter by prefix before clicking
Confusion for new server owners✔ Clear compatibility at a glance
Wasted downloads✔ Download only what works

Additional Benefits

  • Easier navigation for everyone — not just new server owners
  • Less repeated questions like "does this work on Carbon?" clogging up threads
  • Uploaders are encouraged to clearly state compatibility upfront
  • More professional appearance of the entire Rust plugin section
  • Faster access to working plugins — less frustration overall

Implementation Suggestion

The simplest rollout without breaking existing threads:

  1. Add [Oxide], [Carbon] and [Universal] as selectable prefixes in the upload form
  2. Make it optional for now — existing threads stay untouched
  3. Encourage uploaders to tag new resources going forward
  4. Moderators can retroactively tag popular threads over time

Minimal effort from the admin team, immediate value for every user browsing the resource section.

I do not know how exactly i would implement this for already hundreds of existing resources since we would have to manually re-assign them to the right categories. I think it would be easier to just check what you download, because on official pages of the plugins must be already defined for which framework certain plugins are.
