A few years ago for funsies I set up a Minecraft server on a potato PC and we had a few people join it from a discord server. never got automatic backups right, installed some mods but nothing life changing
was fun, had to shut it down because life changes.
life changed again, and I'd like to take another stab at it. slightly better PC for a server, fiber internet. and a bit more experience with Linux
I think I got my notes from the old tutorial I used, but that was years ago, and I am hoping that there is some better tutorials out there.
what info do ya need to know about my goals so we can set up a nice little server our discord friends can go to?
stuff I can think of...
just planning an IP
ort, no need to set up a URL, no need for port forwarding tutorial, I got good enough notes
fairly vanilla, but with a few mods (I really like backpacks, and maps)
PC is a dell optiplex 5040 i7-6700 8 gigs ram Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon (8 more gigs ordered)
1tb SSD
PC is set up for WOL, power on after outage, and RDP
want to have automatic backups, we tried last time but they never ran
the PC should be overpowered enough that I want to install the UI interface to play with (unless someone can tell me a really good reason why not)
