Basically, I want to make a permanent (no wipes) civilization server. While there are already civilization servers that do this (ex: CivMC), as a player I found those servers a bit too heavy on roleplay.

The thing is, I've been on a server with a really close playerbase (that formed groups without roleplaying), but it was marketed towards a really niche audience (permadeath, ridiculous levels of grinding)

I'm trying to find a balance between the two, where it heavily encourages grouping up, but also doesn't make players want to tear their eyes out.

Some ideas I came up with (oh boy imma get some flack for this) are:

  1. Get rid of the nether/lock it
  • It gets rid of netherite, so that a geared person can't just win against a group of people. I think this encourages groups because of how they won't just get massacred by someone in full Prot 4 netherite
  • It gets rid of nether travel so that players can see more of the world
  1. Make diamonds MORE scarce
  • Iron (which is fairly obtainable) is now pretty good (no netherite), and diamond armor is just rare.
  1. No mending / maybe heavily limit enchants
  • No mending so that groups still need to people to collect resources.
  • Maybe limit certain enchants, like sharpness to 2.
  1. Implement some kind of land claiming mechanic
  • Basically a land claiming mechanic that just tells the player (hopefully nonintrusively) the group that owns the land they are on.
  • Land claims don't really do that much, but players in the group that own that land claim can more easily remove blocks that were placed by other players outside of their group
  • Players can try to try to take land claims from other groups (this one is pretty heavy as i don't know how to balance it with offline groups or players)
  1. Block reinforcement system (shameless copying)
  • 9 (maybe other crafting recipe) = 1 reinforcing item, that increases the mining time of a block.
  • 9 reinforcing items to make a fortifying item, that makes a block really, really, REALLY, hard to mine (nothing crazy though)
  • This is to allow people to reinforce cool builds, without making reinforcing TOO easy.

  1. Mobs are harder (just a little bit), and food is more scarce.

  2. World is limited to maybe 10,000 blocks x 10,000 to make sure that civilizations are next to each other.

Please give me some constructive criticism so that my (likely biased and unrealistic) ideas can become better, or give me some more!

Sorry if this is a poorly written or formatted, it is my first reddit post :\
