Trying to use DNS and EC2 to create a reverse-proxy, but I am *struggling*

Just to start; I am *very* new to this. I have never touched server hosting beyond simply downloading packets, installing them, and running them. I usually give my public home IP to my friends, but I am looking for other people to play with and don't wanna take that risk. I am sure there are better ways of doing this, and I am open to them, but this was the easiest and cheapest (cough, free, cough) way I could find.

As far as I understand, I have everything set up correctly. My AWS firewalls are allowing traffic through 25565, and I have the proper TCP/UDP stream nginx config set up, yet trying to connect to the server using my proxy IP consistently nets a "timed out" message. I may be missing something super obvious, and again I am not experienced at all, so please be patient lol. Willing to provide whatever is needed, but I'm not sure where to start with that.
